Joining a Device to Entra ID

This guide is designed to assist new users or employees who may not be tech-savvy in joining a device to Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) using a local admin account. Whether you are setting up your Windows device or enrolling your mobile device, this process ensures your device is up-to-date and compliant with security policies without compromising your privacy.

Part 1: Join a Windows Device to Entra ID

Requirements

Before proceeding, ensure you have a local admin account on your Windows device and meet the necessary subscription requirements to join the device to Entra ID.

Windows 10

1. Open Settings by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Settings (the gear icon).
2. In the Settings window, navigate to Accounts.
3. Select Access work or school from the left pane.
4. Click on the + Connect button.
5. Choose to Join this device to Azure Active Directory.
6. Enter your work email address, follow the prompts, and sign in.
7. Review and accept the organization's terms and click Join.
8. Complete the setup by restarting your device to apply all policies.

Windows 11

1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
2. Access Accounts from the list.
3. Click on Access work or school.
4. Select Connect and then Join this device to Azure Active Directory.
5. Sign in with your credentials and follow the prompts to join the device.
6. Restart your Windows 11 PC to ensure correct application of settings.

Part 2: Mobile Devices and Personal PCs/Macs

Mobile Devices

For Android and iOS devices, install the Intune Company Portal app and enroll by signing in with your work credentials.

Personal PCs/Macs

Registering personal devices ensures compliance with company policies without accessing personal data. Follow similar steps as Windows devices for PCs and use the Company Portal app for Macs.
